It's a new baking group! Hooray! This will be the first time I have baked with a group from the very beginning and I'm so excited about it! All of our recipes will be coming from the book, "Baked Explorations" by Matt Lewis, Renato Poliafito and Tina Rupp. Before I even decided to become a member of this group I checked this book out from my local library. I began flipping through the pages and just couldn't keep from drooling. I have SO many recipes tagged that I can't wait to bake! My turn for hosting in this group won't be until May 2012, but that actually works out GREAT for me seeing as I'm going to have a new baby in less than a few months.
For our first recipe, Karen from Karen's Cookies Cakes & More chose the NY-Style Crumb Cake. After reading all the comments on the message board, I was worried about my choice of baking this in my 9x9 stoneware, but plugged along anyway. You know what!? My crumb cake turned out beautifully, despite my addition of an extra egg and adding about 3 T. of extra flour to compensate for that extra moisture. Hooray! It does taste very similar to a coffee cake. Vanilla-eggy dense with a big bite of cinnamon sugar topping. Definitely one that will be made again!

My husband and I were just reminiscing about the "crumb buns" we used to bring my grandmother years ago. I'm going to surprise him tonight with this recipe.
ReplyDeleteI actually visited your blog because I saw your post about photography on TWD. Thanks for the tips. I know nothing about taking a picture it seems. Your photos are terrific.
Yours look amazing! So great that the smaller pan worked out for you. I have no idea what i did wrong the first time. Thanks for baking along with me and looking forward to many more!
ReplyDeleteGlad to know it worked out in the smaller pan. I had wanted to try a half recipe, but was nervous about it failing.
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks perfect! So glad to hear it worked in a smaller pan. I chickened out worrying a smaller pan wouldn't work out. But having a 9x13 pan of this stuff is dangerous!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first time starting a baking group from the beginning too! Looking forward to baking some great things!
This looks great Lisa! The crumb topping looks tasty. Mine came out a bit too dry :-( Congrats on the new baby too!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the new baby!!! Your cake looks really nice, I'm glad it worked out for you!

ReplyDeleteFirst of all, congratulations on the baby! Your cake looks wonderful. Glad it worked well for you in a smaller pan!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, my muffin pan hasn't actually been used too much. I also typically use liners, so it stays pretty clean (although unseasoned). My others aren't quite as pretty. I have a pizza stone that is bordering on black, but I like it that way :)
I LOVE crumb cake. That looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to tell you what beautiful photos of food your have. I read a lot of food blogs and your pics are amazing.
ReplyDeleteAnd the food's not bad either.....
Lisa, it was so great to meet you at the Trax event today! I love this recipe, and it's one my husband would go CRAZY over! I need to try it asap. Definitely following you now. Hope to see you around my blog sometime! Let me know if you'd ever be interested in guest blogging one of your delicious recipes! http://confessionsofaslackermom.blogspot.com.
ReplyDeleteThis crumb cake recipe is unbelievable wow. Thank you for that recipe I have to say what I baked turned out looking just like the photo. Like any great desert, every crumb was eaten soon after supper was finished. Holiday cooking is great, when you can make deserts like this. One thing that I love is saving money when I shop for the ingredients. Before I shop now I check this site for coupons, deals, and incentives for the items I need. The last time I shopped I was able to save over $75.00. I was pretty happy about that. Every dollar counts!
